Derek Haugen
Physical Therapist

Derek Haugen, DPT is excited to join the OST family. A recent graduate of St. Scholastica, Haugen is thrilled to be treating in an outpatient setting. He feels that "the variety offered in a community setting is what makes every day exciting, and expresses that his favorite part about working with patients is the moment when they realize that they have the power to take control of their well-being."

Haugen has been interested in physical medicine for most of his life, and a high school knee injury solidified his interest in becoming a physical therapist. He feels that the rehab experiences he had are what make him a good physical therapist, since he is able to relate to the apprehension that most patients have on their first visit.

Having a passion for people in mind, Haugen possesses a belief that "a good PT focuses on a patient's abilities, not their current limitations. Empowering people to succeed on their own is one of the keys to success" as a physical therapist.

A special memory in recent months includes finishing his 6 years of service in the Army Reserve, which included a six month deployment to Africa. Having grown up in Moose Lake, MN, Haugen feels right at home in Ladysmith. He enjoys the "close-knit sense of community" that smaller towns have to offer, and it glad to be here with OST. When not treating, you can find him enjoying all things hockey, Minnesota Twins baseball, running, and being outdoors in general.
